i loved the practice i was into for a while of keeping a gratitude journal. i loved that it kept me oriented to the aspects of my life for which i was thankful. it became easy to list at the end of each day at least 10 happenings that i was grateful for. and then, i fell out of the ritual of keeping my gratitude journal.
life gets busy and at the end of the day when i'm bleary-eyed from fatigue, i don't follow through on even the best most enriching practices.
BUT there are always other ways to dish up the pie, right? we owe it to ourselves to find and follow what works well in our lives. so i've taken to mental gratitude lists. i like to bookend my day with positives, so i typically review a couple reasons for which i am grateful as i am walking ernie in the morning. midday, i take a pause from the bustle and reflect on one or two new reasons i am thankful. and then as i'm winding down for the evening, i mentally ruminate on another couple reasons i glow with gratitude.
there is value in writing our gratitude lists. but to keep gratitude top of mind throughout the day, these mental gratitude interludes work best for me at this point in my world. and yes, i'm grateful to have found a solution that is a better fit for me for now.
