i came across this quote from gandhi on the relationship between our beliefs, our values and our destiny.

think our values are not mission critical for our best lives? values are an essential link in our chain. when we think about how we behave and what our values are, it's helpful to realize they are a compass for the kind of life we live and whether we live to our fullest and richest potentials. perhaps the best gift we can give ourselves for the holidays is to be reflective and thoughtful about our values and how they impact our lives.
